UPDATE: Mar 20, 2020

As I mentioned in the previous update, my test for a genetic mutation came back positive.

After the last update Lisa and I had calls with my Oncologist and my Naturopathic Oncologist. Both were genuinely delighted to hear the news.

A little more detail on what this means going forward.

First, it means that the prognosis is much more positive. This is due to the fact that there multiple drugs that have been developed, targeting this specific type of cancer.

The medication targets and impacts the mutated cells only, and does not damage normal cells.

Therefore, the side effects of this type of drug are much less severe than Intravenous Chemo.

Often there are little to no side effects and severe reactions are rare.

The oral medication I take is an Oral version of Chemotherapy. It does require special handling and has some special requirements.

It’s not a cure, but it has shown to be pretty effective at stopping and reversing the growth of the cancer.

The oncologist did say that if its effective it could change my staging. I’m Stage IV now. Staging is determined by where it is and if its traveled to other areas or systems.

For instance, if it is eliminated completely from my lymph nodes, my staging could be reduced.

After a couple of weeks of working through the paperwork and special logistics, we did receive the medication last week.

I began taking it last Friday. So, I’ve been on it for a week, and no side effects so far.

We will monitor by doing blood work initially to insure that its not doing damage to liver or blood counts, etc…

I will continue taking it and do a CT Scan every 3 months. That’s when we’ll see how its working.

So the updated, special prayer requests are that:

1 – The medication is very effective at reducing and eliminating the cancer cells in my body.

2 – My body responds well and tolerates the medication well, not developing any type of resistance

3 – I continue to stay healthy outside of this condition, because it does put me at higher risk of other factors

With gratitude for all your prayers and support,

Tom

As a reminder, my core original prayer requests are:

  1. Pray and ask God specifically for the items I’ve identified below

  2. Pray consistently three times each day – if possible at the times listed below

8:00 or 9:00 AM 3:00 or 4:00 PM 9:00 or 10:00 PM

The specific requests that God has placed on my heart are as follows:

· God will be glorified in some way through all of this

· Complete healing, with no signs of disease remaining

· Mental Strength, Peace of Mind, and Acceptance of God’s will for Lisa and I as we walk through this together

· Wisdom in all decision making

· Physical relief from pain and discomfort

· Blessings for all that have and will be touched, and have extended their prayers of support (this includes each of you)
